It is with great pleasure and anticipation that the Board wishes to announce that Andrew (Andy) Garrow has been hired as Katimavik’s first Director of Youth Development. More than anything, the title best conveys the value-based focus of the NEW Katimavik: we are not about programs, we are about developing young women and men to engage as citizens and deal with 21 st century issues, for a better Canada.
As Director of Youth Development, Andy will be responsible for:
- The design, marketing, recruitment, delivery and evaluation of all Katimavik programming for youth development, which programming will continue to provide superior development benefits for the participants and for the community partners;
- Direct input into all leadership matters pertaining to the Organization;
- Full support for the development and management of key partnerships; and
- Serving as the lead person in alumni relations.
Andy brings considerable experience after over a decade of service with the former Aboriginal and Northern Affairs Canada, and later as a senior executive in the Healing Foundation where he dealt first-hand with survivors of the residential school tragedy.
He also brings a strong “can-do” attitude, resourcefulness, a natural sense of collaboration and a deep commitment to youth development and to the reconciliation objective of Katimavik.
Having worked for Katimavik in a consulting role for 14 months, he is already in full stride. He will be located in Ottawa.
