Katimavik Volunteers arrive in their new host communities this week, ready to make their contributions towards shaping a better Canada. These 66 young people will take part in the Katimavik National Experience, a 6-month volunteer service opportunity funded by the Government of Canada as part of the Canada Service Corps.
This diverse group of youth aged 18 – 25 years old arrive on July 3rdto their new host communities, where they will discover a new region of Canada and will live and work together for 3 months before travelling to another community to continue their volunteer experience. The communities that will be hosting Katimavik Volunteers include:
- Nanaimo, BC
- Calgary, AB
- Saint Boniface, MB
- Sudbury, ON
- Quebec City, QC
- Moncton, NB
In each of these communities, the Katimavik Volunteers will each be offering over 30 hours a week of volunteer service to local non-profit organizations, developing projects that better the community, and connecting with local Indigenous communities and organizations to engage in meaningful actions towards reconciliation.
Katimavik is a unique experience that transforms the lives of young people and strengthens community connections across the country. Each group will be hosting a Welcome Potluck at the Katimavik House on July 9thor 10th, to connect the Volunteers with community members and to learn more about how they can contribute to the development of strong communities. Members of the community and media are invited to attend and can RSVP at info@katimavik.orgfor more information.
