Katimavik meets with Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Peter Schiefke

On February 3rd, representatives of the Katimavik Board, management and alumni met with Peter Schiefke, Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, along with his team of advisors.    Mr. Schiefke emphasized the Prime Minister’s personal commitment to Canadian youth; he named himself Minister for Youth.  Our meeting was part of a broad consultation process being led by Mr. Schiefke.  He was directed by the Prime Minister to assess the needs of Canadian youth and to compile a report of organizations which can assist the government in delivering on its electoral commitments regarding youth.  These include a national youth community volunteer service, the development…

News from our Board

Greetings to our Katimavik alumni,  Thank you for your enthusiastic support for the important re-launch of Katimavik. The Board has outlined an ambitious Plan.  It includes a major commitment to active reconciliation with Canada’s indigenous peoples in all programming. The “new” national program also highlights the development of youth and communities in a framework of social innovation.  For obvious reasons, we do not anticipate a meeting with the new government until sometime later in December or early January 2016.  We will keep you posted.  Please continue your support and your ideas! Canadian Youth Leadership Program – Recruitment is open!

The Canadian Youth Leadership Program is offered by the Rupertsland Institute in collaboration with Katimavik. We are happy to continue this program in fall 2015. Recruitment is currently open! Are you Métis youth, between 18-30? Do you seek a greater connection to you community? Through volunteering you will learn to lead and connect to your community while you gain valuable employment skills and exposure to post-secondary education. Second-annual Katima-Warrior fundraiser for Katimavik!

Cassandra is recruiting volunteers for the Warrior Dash event which will be held in the Horseshoe Valley (ON), near Barrie Ontario on July 18-19 2015. Monetary donations are applicable with ten or more volunteers commit to a shift, four shift times are available. Donation amount depends on participation, ranging from $200-$1,000 per shift. Hope is to engage youth, alumni and supporters at the event weekend although additional positions to coordinate volunteers are available.
