Become a Katimavik Partner

Katimavik’s two main programs, National Experience et FuturePerfect, give participants a rich experience of work and community life in locations that are typically different from their own. Since these programs last several months and are completely immersive, they offer everyone the opportunity to learn another language.

For the young people who participate in them, these programs represent a meaningful, life-altering experience. But there are also real benefits for the community organizations and businesses—our program partners— that work with them. Would you like to become a partner?

By becoming a Katimavik partner, you’ll be giving young people from across Canada the chance to acquire new skills and hone their abilities. For the young participants, it can represent a tremendous jumpstart at the beginning of their career.

So, what does an organization or business in your community get out of it?

Become a Partner of the National Experience

Up to eleven young people aged 17 to 25 from across the country live together in a large house. From Monday to Thursday each week, every participant contributes approximately 30 hours of volunteer work for organizations in the community. This hands-on experience helps them acquire new skills and knowledge in structured work environments.

The organizations in which they work are Katimavik partners.

Benefits

By contributing to the National Experience, our partners get the benefit of hard work performed by motivated and committed youth. Our partners, for their part, have an obligation to give Katimavik volunteers every possible opportunity to learn the skills related to their placement and ensure they have a positive experience.

Criteria

Katimavik is present in various communities across Canada, and the number of locations is expected to increase. We foster partnerships with local organizations that share our values of openness and our mission to support the development of young people from all backgrounds. The goal is to help these young people become altruistic, engaged citizens capable of exercising leadership in the country’s development.

The National Experience is funded by the Government of Canada through the Canada Service Corps program.

Become a Partner of Futureperfect

For three months, young adults aged 18 to 30 stay in shared lodgings in a Canadian community, provided by Katimavik, after a rigorous selection process.

FuturePerfect kickstarts careers by enhancing employability and professionalism, offering real work experience with long-term job prospects. Participants spend 10 to 12 weeks working full-time for employers matching their skills and career aspirations.

These partners play a pivotal role in shaping tomorrow’s workforce.

Benefits

FuturePerfect partner employers have the unique opportunity to host young adults who are competent and motivated to learn. All participants receive intensive training to develop their professional abilities and essential soft skills.

Katimavik covers a significant portion of the host province’s minimum wage, and the employers must pay at least two dollars above that minimum wage.

  • Participants benefit from the full support and mentorship of an employment counsellor.
  • A strong FuturePerfect job development team guides participants throughout their experience and helps you integrate your new employee.
  • You will conduct interviews and select the candidates best suited to your organization.
  • You will be empowering these young adults by boosting their employability and professionalism.
  • You will have the opportunity to offer them a permanent position at the end of the program.

Criteria

Katimavik welcomes requests from businesses of all sizes, non-profit organizations, public agencies and others offering quality employment to participants.

  • You must commit to provide paid, subsidized employment to your FuturePerfect participant for a period of 10 to 12 weeks.
  • The proposed job must match the participant’s profile while offering other opportunities for employability development.
  • The participant must have the opportunity to stay in the job after the Katimavik funding has ended.

Registration

If you wish to participate in the FuturePerfect program and host a subsidized participant, you must complete the online registration form. Please provide a detailed description of the position and employment conditions for each participant you wish to hire.

  • You are legally able to provide a full-time job to people who can legally work in Canada;
  • The participant(s) you hire after your employment partnership has been approved must be treated like all your other employees;
  • No job-related activities may contravene any laws or regulations.

Created by Katimavik, the program is supported by Employment and Social Development Canada.

Helps Us Promote Katimavik

Talking about your Katimavik experience can be very compelling for others. As part of a multigenerational group of former participants, you can play an important role in ensuring Katimavik’s long-term success.

If you were among the first to experience Katimavik, you’re already in your sixties (yes, time flies). And if you’re reading this after all that time, it’s most likely because the experience helped define who you are today.

Or maybe you participated in one of our programs more recently and believe that others should have the same opportunities as you.
